Big Bad Wolf

This term we have been looking at increasing our vocabulary. Our writing was based around the Big Bad Wolf. We used hot spot words to write a 'Beware' paragraph about him.

Beware! The Big Bad Wolf has been spotted near St Pius X Catholic School! He is like a devil and he has coarse fur. He looked like an evil nasty ugly wolf with blood soaked vampire fangs he is very tall, he is so tall that he has to go down to his knee. His fangs are blood soaked

Beware! The Big Bad Wolf has been spotted near St Pius X Catholic School! He is  very tall and has beady eyes . He also has fangs that are blood soaked from eating innocent animals. The wolf is very muscular and has dark coloured coarse fur.The Big Bad Wolf has large ears to listen out for his prey so watch out! He has black fur and tan coloured skin and sharp pointy eyebrows. This wolf is sneaky and is speedy and very vicious. The Big Bad Wolf is ferocious and mean and uses his talons to rip your things. He won’t stop hurting people that get in his way he is out to eat anything and anyone. If the big bad wolf spots anyone lurking around the school he will straight away eat that person with no regret. So if you spot the big bad wolf you better be careful.

Beware! The Big Bad Wolf has been spotted near St Pius X Catholic School He is looking for some pupils so he could eat them. All of the pupils were so scared that they kept still like a piece of rock. The big bad wolf had big razor sharp talons and fangs and on his fangs he had blood soaked blood like he already eaten a kid. The wolf was so muscular and ruthless. He was so evil.

Names for God

By Justin

We have been looking at different images and names for God in the New Testament. Above is an Animoto slideshow created by Justin with a range of different names for God. Below is a scripture that Frank read. At the end he states what the image of God is in this scripture.

John 6:51
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If you eat the bread, you will live forever. The bread that I will give you is flesh, which I give so that the world may live.

The image of God in this scripture is the bread.

Alex's Visit by Catherine

Yesterday there was a visitor that came to our classroom and his name was Alex. When Alex came inside he took his laptop outside and put it on the table and he also took an Ipad outside and put it on the table. All the people said “WOW!”.

Then Alex went and sat down on the chair and Dalaney stood up and say “When we start we like to say this prayer”, after that we all did the sign of the cross and we sang the school prayer. Then Alex said that he is going to tell us about himself.

Alex told us when he was a younger he went to Trinity College and they got their own room. Also Alex said that when it morning then someone rang the bell and they had to wear a black hat and a black shirt.

Also Alex told us that their table looked like the table of the Harry Potter movie because they have long tables and lots of chair on it. He told us to follow your dreams, try your best, work hard and never give up also to study hard.

After when Alex told us about himself he asked us if we had any questions and all the kids put their hands up and Alex asked them one by one. After when all the kids asked their question then Alex gave us a prize.

Then we all say thank you to him, after that Miss Leaupepe told Alex can we have a picture then Alex said “yes”.
We all take a photo and after that we all say goodbye to Alex.

Also we had lots of fun with him, and he is amazing and cool!

Nickson's Visit by Ilaisaane

On Wednesday we were lucky to have a visit from Nickson that works at the Mai FM. He came to tell us about what it is like to work at a radio station.

He came inside our classroom  and he came and sat on the chair. He started talking and we started asking questions. He told us lots and lots of things about being on Mai FM. He told us that he always talks about his wife and how beautiful she is.

Nickson said to us that they only play 170 songs a week. He wakes up at 3:30am but he goes work at 4:30.pm He is so cool. He can record anywhere, he can even record in the plane. He told us three more things. First, he worked at five different radio stations in seven years.

His friend Nate, always gets him in trouble with his boss. When people came they always put their hand on the Bible so that they always tell the truth. After our talk Nickson took out some CDs from his bag and some stickers and cards. After that he said, "Bye" and he went.

"I really enjoyed his visit"

Swimming begins

This week we started our swimming programme. We are lucky to have a portable pool at our school. Even though the weather is freezing, it’s nice and warm in the water. We will be swimming everyday for 2 whole weeks and have an instructor to help us improve our swimming skills. We are looking forward to swimming everyday and learning new skills.

Michelle Newton’s Visit to Room 6 by Leki

On Friday we had a guest speaker who spoke to us about how she became successful. The speaker was Michelle. She is 32 years old and works for Niu FM in Manukau City. She is a sound engineer and a stand up comedian. The minute she walked through the door she made us laugh with one of her jokes. She is a Cook Islander but her dad is English. Michelle went to university and studied hard so that she could work for a radio station. She told us that it is hard to get job to work on the radio. She wants to be the CEO of Niu FM so she works really hard so that  she can become  the CEO. We asked her a lot of questions like If she likes to read and if she wanted to work for the radio when she was young. When she was growing up she had always liked entertainment and that was a career she wanted to be apart of. She told us later on about her family she has two children and two dogs and is a single mum. She likes to embarrass her children but her mum likes to do the same thing to her. At work she works with a lot of Pacific Islanders because it is a Pacific Island radio station. She gets to meet  a lot of celebrities and most of them are kiwi. To me Michelle is an inspiration to people who want to be successful because she is successful.

Catholic Schools Day by Monique

Yay! I said as soon as the teachers said St Josephs school was coming over to Saint Pius X Catholic school. On Tuesday, 21st May when St Josephs came to SPX, we had a school mass for Catholic school day with St Josephs school together as a community.

While mass was still going on, I got to know people already because I shook hands with the students from St Josephs. Even 2 house captains from St Josephs served our school mass and they brang along their priest Father Terry to be our father for today. I really enjoyed seeing a lot of students even though there were only 5 classes at St Josephs. it was a pretty small school, I really enjoyed celebrating school mass with Father Ioane and Father Terry.

Lunch time was on and I got to meet more and more people. I got to have a very special buddy name Tiana, she is very special to me because she was very kind to me and I was very kind to her. We had a lovely time together running playing singing and talking in our own place near the tree.

After lunch time Tiana and I ran and lined up ready to go to the hall for the school concert with St Josephs and SPX. Saint Pius sang some songs and performed and St Josephs students performed for us. I really enjoyed my time with St Josephs singing together and dancing. I hope we get to meet them again. I had a cool and amazing day.

Pictograms

We are learning about statistical literacy. This means reading and writing about statistics. We learned about pictograms. One of the most important things to look for is the key. The keys is important because it tells you clues. Here is an example of a pictogram:

Using new language features in our writing

This term we have been really focusing on using new language features in your writing. Each day we do Newsboard wrting where we describe the weather. We have been using similes, metaphors, personification and alliteration. Each week our descriptions have been improving. Here are some examples of our awesome writing.

I can feel the wind delicately dancing past me
and the sun is chasing us like a wild goose chase.
I can hear the birds singing they are singing opera songs
and the ground is drenched like it will never dry up
Aurora

I can see the tree wobble wildly, I can see the clouds floating in the air like they are in heaven.
I can hear the birds flapping in the sky looking for land to raise their young.
Sonya

I could feel the wind high fiving my hand
I could see the bright green rubbish bin all still like a frozen computer
Ierei

I can see the sun looking down like a falling fireball.
Ilaisaane

I can see the tree waving their hands and losing some of their hair.
Salote

The clouds are dark like they are having a war with the sun in the sky.
Simione

I could feel the sun burning on my arms like I’m in a safari
Savelio

I can see the sun and clouds greeting each other trying to make new friends
Monique

My ears can hear the wind rushing like an invisible racing car in the classroom
Jane

I can hear the birds racing for the golden medal
I can see the grass flirting with the flowers
I can see the branches alone without any leaves
Lose

When I feel the wind it feels like l’m flying
Oscar

I can feel the wind crashing into my body like  people punching you
Tangi

The birds are screaming like they are having a war. They are singing “This is it boys! This is war!”
Taiwan

My eyes could see the clouds swimming in the sky,  the trees are dancing to the beat of the rushing wind and the trees are losing their hair.
Ierei

I can hear the tree branches swishing side to side like they are all doing zumba

Holy Week

We have had a very busy past few weeks in Room 6. Along with our normal learning, we also celebrated Holy Week. This is the week leading up to the Easter celebrations. As a school, we had an Easter liturgy that depicted the Passion of Christ. We also created Google presentations explaining Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Here is Sonya's for you to see.

Talofa Room 6!

I can’t believe the time for school has come around already! I thought I’d write you a letter to all of you to introduce myself to you, your new awesome, super cool, fantastic, fun, sometimes grumpy teacher! I’m really excited to be working at St Pius X School and even more excited to be your teacher. Ok, so you already know that my name is Miss Leaupepe. What else is there? I’m originally from Wellington and have been in Auckland for about 7 months now and am loving it! I miss my friends and family but they’re only an hour plane ride away so it’s not too bad. Before I moved to Auckland I taught in Samoa for over a year. I loved living there and I miss the hot weather! I’ve been teaching for about 8 years now and have taught from Year 4s to Year 8s. I love little kids but there’s no way I could be a junior teacher!

Now about my family. My dad is from Samoa, he comes from the villages of Faleasiu and Fasito’o-uta. He’s from a family of 10 so that side of my family is HUGE! My mum is from Australia and was born and raised in Brisbane so we’re Queensland hard. Mum comes from a small family, she only had 1 brother and 1 sister so my Australian side is pretty small. I have 1 younger sister and her name is Analise. At the moment she lives in France and has been there for almost a year. She lives in Carcasonne which is in the south of France. We are only 22 months apart so we’re pretty close. I also have 2 half brothers and they both live in Auckland. We’re a very close family and I’m proud of all the different cultures that make me who I am.

I’m a big sports fan and love watching a whole range of different sports. My favourite sport to watch is rugby league and my favourite team is the Melbourne Storm. As my mum was born in Queensland, I am a staunch Queensland supporter and love State of Origin time. Especially becasue we’ve won 7 years in a row! I also love food, my favourite food is Samoan food. I love pisupo, luau, oka, panikeke...you name it, I’ll eat it! I also love being with family and friends and usually this involves lots of food so it all works out perfectly. Things I don’t like...I am absolutely petrified of injections! I cry almost every time I have to have one and I’ve been this way since I was about 7 years old. It’s rather funny that I’m scared of needles though because I’ve had 4 tattoos! I guess I can’t be that scared, can I?

My goal for this year is to develop a class that strive for excellence in all that they do. I always set high expectations for my class and as a team we will work hard together to reach our goals. I am really excited to be at a new school and to be Room 6’s teacher. I can’t wait to meet all my new students and to get our year started together. I have high hopes for our class and I hope you’re all excited too! It’s going to be hard work but I know we’ll all be up to the challenge. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun along the way.

See you all on Monday!

From your new teacher,

Miss Leaupepe
